Do Hair Transplants Work?

Considering a hair transplant? Every year, thousands of people undergo procedural hair transplants in the fight against hair thinning and balding.  A total of 60% of men and 50% of women experience hair loss symptoms in their lifetime, creating a market full of different products and treatments like PRP for you to choose from.

Having a hair transplant is a big deal, and we want to make sure you don’t rush into a decision. This article will aid your decision-making process and boost up your hair transplant research by answering frequently asked questions like:

  • Do hair transplants work?
  • Are they expensive?
  • What are the side effects?

Do Hair Transplants Work?

There are various ways to approach hair loss and a lot of treatments to choose from. However, hair transplants often see the best results and the highest client satisfaction.

An estimated 10 to 80 per cent of the transplanted hair will grow back in three to four months, which should give you confidence in investing in the transplant. It does take time though, so patience is a virtue when it comes to expecting a full head of hair!

Normally, within 8-10 months a full head of hair is clear, where the hair is growing at the same rate and thickness as the other surrounding hair. Don’t let that put you off though! As we mentioned, there are results within a matter of months. Plus, most people with male or female pattern baldness are good candidates for a hair transplant.

Here are some symptoms that make you a good candidate for hair transplant:

  • Men losing hair due to pattern baldness for more than 5 years
  • Man and Women who have lost hair due to trauma or burns
  • Aged between 25-65

If you have dormant hair follicles, (sacs under the skin that no longer grow hair, but contain it) you might find a hair transplant is slightly less effective. But, plasma therapy has been found to help up to 75% of transplanted hair grow back.

Despite the promising results, unfortunately, hair transplants don’t work for everyone. The following symptoms may suggest another hair loss treatment should be considered:

  • Extreme cases of thinning and baldness
  • Hair loss as a result of prescribed medication or surgery
  • Injuries to the scalp

In some cases of complete baldness, or alopecia areata, where small bald patches appear and disappear in different locations, hair transplants are not recommended.

With one operation in a completely bald area, hair transplants can achieve around 30% of the original hair density in that area. So some patients with more advanced hair loss might need two procedures to achieve a full, thick look.

But, if your hair loss is due to genetics, as in most cases of pattern-baldness, the effects of a hair transplant should be long-lasting!

Are They Expensive?

The price of a hair transplant session can be determined by:

  • The degree of the transplant procedure
  • Waiting period
  • Surgeon experience

The NHS predicts a hair transplant to cost anywhere between £1,000 and £30,000, which is extremely expensive considering the average UK salary is £27,000.

At Juvida we offer a range of prices depending on the size of your case. All queries and concerns can be discussed over a FREE consultation that works around you. Alternatively, give us a call on 01756 456016, or email info@juvidaclinics.com

We have a unique pricing structure ensuring you get maximum density and so pay for what actually grows, not per graft the doctor attempts to take. There is a HUGE difference.

To help with this, we offer finance packages to reduce monthly costs to as little as £50 per month.

What Are The Side Effects?

Generally, minor side effects follow a hair transplant procedure that will fade in a matter of weeks. The most common side effect is scarring, which can’t be avoided.

Potential side effects include:

  • Scarring –  the most common side effect is scaring, which can’t be avoided
  • Itching – itching may occur due to scabbing and can become severe if not treated properly
  • Risk of infection – infection is possible but very unlikely and can be easily treated with antibiotics
  • Slight bleeding – this is a rare side effect but can be stopped by applying pressure to the area of concern
  • Loss of newly transplanted hair – it is extremely common for hair to fall out after surgery, but it isn’t permanent so don’t worry!
  • Uncomfortable sleep – as you can imagine, sleep is going to be uncomfortable for the first few weeks but is something you will overcome with time.

The list of potential side effects can be daunting and possibly put you off, but we can ensure hair transplant procedure in the hands of our professional surgeons is very safe and worry-free
