Ask Juvida – Male Pattern Baldness

Dear Juvida,

I’m considering a hair transplant and I have male pattern baldness. Is surgery just a temporary solution? How would I be able to achieve full head of hair if Male Pattern Baldness is progressive? Am I just delaying the inevitable?

Juvida says:

Congratulations on making the decision to do something about your hair loss as this is often the most difficult step but early diagnosis and intervention makes a world of difference in the outcome.

Androgenetic alopecia (also known as male pattern baldness and male pattern hair loss) affects 50% of men by the age of 50 and as you say it is progressive. Balding affects any man’s self-confidence, no matter what age they are.

Hair transplantation is not a temporary solution but a permanent one. Whilst researching a hair transplant, you will become aware of what a donor area is. This is the hair that is at the back of your head, and it is unaffected by the hormone DHT (which causes male pattern baldness). As the hair that is implanted into your balding areas is taken from the donor area, when it regrows it won’t fall out again. The transplanted hair will also generally retain the characteristics of the donor hair from the back and sides of your head, in terms of colour and texture.

Unfortunately, although we can replace the lost hair, the hair that you already had there will continue to be affected by DHT. This may mean that after quite some time, your hair will again seem thin. It is highly important you have a full consultation with a medical professional in order to discuss your expectations, and what can be achieved before having a procedure.

Here at Juvida we offer free consultations with a member of our team, who will assess your hair loss, and discuss what treatment is suitable. They can go through all of your expectations, and use our amazing ARTAS Hair Studio in order to give you an idea of what you’ll look like after the procedure!
